Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Urges India to ‘Move Faster’ in Building Local AI Economy

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has urged India to “move faster” in AI, calling for local companies and startups to seize opportunities in artificial intelligence and help build a stronger domestic AI economy.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has urged India to “move faster” as artificial intelligence reshapes the global technology industry, while expressing excitement over Indian companies and startups building a local AI economy.

Huang said India already has one of the world’s leading IT industries, but artificial intelligence represents the beginning of a new technology platform that could create fresh opportunities for the country.

“I had the benefit of seeing Modiji a decade ago talking about AI,” Huang said, referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “I'm really anxious to see and very excited to see the local companies and the local startups starting in India, starting to take advantage of the technology, contributing to the technology and then building the local AI economy.”

His message to India was summed up in two words: “Move faster.”

Huang’s comments come as India steps up efforts to develop its artificial intelligence and semiconductor capabilities. The country is seeking to build a wider technology ecosystem covering chip manufacturing, chip design, research and development, computing infrastructure, applications and skilled talent.

The push is not limited to semiconductor manufacturing. India is also looking to develop expertise in chip design, conduct research and strengthen technology capabilities within the country.

The broader aim is to create an ecosystem in which technology is developed across different stages, from chip design and manufacturing to AI research, applications and startups.

Nvidia is a major player in the global AI industry, with its chips widely used to power artificial intelligence systems. Its growing engagement with India comes as the country seeks a larger role in the global semiconductor and AI sectors.

For India, Huang’s comments highlight the opportunity to use its existing IT talent and startup ecosystem to build businesses that do more than simply use AI.

The challenge, however, is speed. As artificial intelligence develops rapidly across the world, Huang’s message to India is that the country needs to move quickly, not only to adopt the technology but also to contribute to its development and build a local AI economy.
